As a collegiate athlete, you’ve likely developed discipline, resilience, time management skills, and the ability to perform under pressure. These qualities are equally essential in the legal profession.
The scholarship selection committee with Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan wants to hear how your time on the field, court, track, or in competition has influenced your decision to pursue law and how it has prepared you for the challenges ahead. Apply by December 15, 2026, to qualify.
Application Requirements
Students interested in applying for The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship must meet the scholarship’s qualifying criteria for their applications to move forward. Students must be:
- Student-athletes based in Michigan with an interest in a legal career
- Enrolled in an accredited college, trade school, university, or graduate program in the United States
Applicants must also agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions and submit all of the required application materials. This includes a video answering the scholarship’s core questions.
Videos should be no more than three minutes long. Students can upload their videos to YouTube as unlisted .mp4s, then share a link to those videos through the completed application form on this page.
Scholarship Video Topic
The scholarship selection committee with Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan invites qualifying students to create a video up to three minutes long discussing:
- What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
- How has your experience as a student-athlete prepared you for law school and the legal profession?
- What lessons from athletics, such as leadership, perseverance, teamwork, or overcoming adversity, will you carry with you into your legal career?
- How do you hope to make an impact in the legal field?
Please do not use AI to generate your video, create your script, modify your voice, or create fake actors. The inappropriate use of AI to generate a video for The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship will result in a student’s application being immediately removed from the applicant pool.
How to Make a Video for The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship
When creating a video for The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship, make sure to record in a well-lit room while holding your recording device as still as possible. You can record your video on a phone, with a camera, or with any tool you have available to you, so long as the scholarship selection committee can understand its contents.
Please mention your full name and the name of The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship at either the beginning or end of your video. If you use any sources in your video, please include citations and a bibliography at the end of the video. Make sure to source any tools you use to edit your video, as well.
The scholarship selection committee will not award The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship based on a student’s editing ability, but instead on the content they include in their video. With that in mind, make a careful pass of your script to eliminate any factual or grammatical errors before recording your video.
When Should I Submit My Application?
Students have until December 15, 2026, to complete their applications and submit them for consideration. Unfortunately, the scholarship selection committee with Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan cannot accept applications after this deadline passes.
Likewise, the team cannot accept incomplete applications or applications that do not meet the qualifying criteria. Please double-check the scholarship’s acceptance criteria and make sure that your application packet includes all of the required materials, including a complete video essay and application form.
Unfortunately, the team with Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan cannot accept questions about The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship at this time. Please do not call, email, or otherwise reach out to the firm with questions about the nature of this scholarship or the status of an application at this time.
Terms and Conditions
All applicants to this scholarship must meet the eligibility requirements as laid out on the scholarship application page, including:
- Applicant must be enrolled at a college, trade school, university, or graduate school
- Applicant must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment
- Applicant must have residency in the United States
- Applicant must be in good academic standing
- Applicant must submit some personal information, including name, contact information, and academic information
- Applicant must author an original video on the scholarship topic provided
Anyone who meets the following conditions is NOT eligible to apply:
- Employees or children of employees of Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan
- Past recipients of The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship
- Applicants who are unable/unwilling to be interviewed by a representative of Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan, if they were to be awarded a scholarship.
- Applicants who submit the same video for multiple scholarships or for multiple years in a row
Selection & Award Notification Process
You must submit your application for consideration before December 15, 2026, if you want to qualify for The Athlete’s Journey to Justice Scholarship. After the submission deadline passes, Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan reserves up to three months to choose and contact the scholarship’s winner.
Age, race, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, or other protected classes will have no influence on the committee’s decision. Please do not reach out to Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan for updates on your application.
Once the scholarship selection committee with Hirsch, Gaugier & Khan selects its winner, they will contact that student by email. The firm will then share a blog post and press release announcing the winner’s name. The winning student can expect the firm to send their scholarship winnings to the student’s academic institution of choice.
